….decries abuse of social media, advocates for responsible use
The Rector, Nigeria-Korea Friendship Institute, Williams Charles Oluwatoyin has corroborated that the news peddled on Social media regarding the Thursday night breach on security and alleged attack by bandits on the premises of Kogi State Polytechnic or the student hostels were outright falsehoods and an handwork of mischief makers.
The Rector who made this known on Friday morning, after been fully briefed by the security outfit of the Nigeria-Korea Friendship institute explained that upon receiving the information on Thursday night and considering that the institution shares the same compound with Kogi State Polytechnic, he made frantic efforts to investigate such concern from the Head of security at the institution, who confirmed affirmatively that nothing of such was ongoing.
Despite receiving the late night briefing, the Rector said, he reached out to relevant stakeholders to further ascertain more clearly and there were similar assuring information to further confirm that the highly sensitive and disturbing information was outrightly false and a product of evil imaginations.
He added that a further in-depth investigation in the early hours of Friday further corroborated the earlier submissions, confirming that such claims were very far from reality hence he wondered what some individuals stand to gain by being purveyors of fake news just in a deliberate attempt to put the government to disrepute.
The Rector condemned in strong terms the irresponsible nature with which individuals use social media to cause mayhem and destabilise the peace and tranquillity of the state noting that certain misbehaviours were too expensive and caution must never be thrown into the air when using a medium that could stir up fear and anxiety. He urged that such individuals must be cautioned, so that others would take a cue and act responsible.
He reassured that the state government under the leadership of Gov. Ahmed Usman Ododo was Ontop with regards to sustaining the security successes inherited from the previous administration stating that the government has continued to engage relevant stakeholders across board in a bid to guarantee the safety and security of the state ad its people.
