The Administrator of Lokoja Local Government, Hon. Shiru Lawal has reiterated his commitment to the education of his people in fulfilment of Governor Yahaya Bello’s quest for qualitative education.
Shiru made this declaration at the flag-off ceremony of his ‘Free Holiday Lesson’ at Bishop Delise College, Lokoja, yesterday.
Declaring the event open, the Administrator said education is the greatest asset that can bequeathed to the people. He noted that students go idling around during holidays thereby making them vulnerable to social vices such as smoking, drinking, cultism, rape, kidnapping etc, which can endanger their future, families and the society. He stated that these fears informed his decision to introduce the free holiday lesson in order to get them gainfully engaged.
He described Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello as an education-friendly leader. He commended Governor Bello for the opportunity to serve his people and assured of the continued undiluted support and loyalty of the people of Lokoja local government the New Direction government.
He called on parents to take advantage of this opportunity by sending their wards to the lesson centres.
Earlier, the Coordinator of the exercise, who is a former NUT Chairman Lokoja LG Chapter, Comrade Mahmud Shehu, thanked the administrator and said more population has been added as parents even from outside the state sent their wards to spent holidays here to benefit from the free lessons.
He commended Shiru for his commitment and urged him to sustain it as the people would reciprocate appropriately.
Appreciating the Administrator, a cross section of the students pleaded that he extends the centres to Zango Daji and Zone 8 axis considering the cost of transportation.
The holiday lesson exercise covers designated schools across the 10 wards of the local government such as Bishop Delise College; Local Government Secondary School, Kabawa; St. Luke’s Primary School, Adankolo, Lokoja; LGSS Felele; Muslims Community Secondary School, Lokongoma; UBE Eggan, Abugi and Budan.
