Students of Kogi State University, Ayingba are now in a dilemma, as they have no financial capacity to meet up with the school fees payment to enable them for the First Semester Registration against their forthcoming examinations.
For the first time in a long time, most well-to-do Nigerian parents have been unable to pay their children’s fees, thanks to recession cum the economic hardship.
The situation is even worst for students who had just be given admission and yet could not afford the financial means to enable them for the screening and registration processes. This is real struggle.
Our correspondent gathered that, prospective candidates who were given admission for the 2016/2017 academic session could not resume, while some wrote to the school management for a deferment of admission.
However, the Vice-Chancellor and his management members have in their magnanimity, considered the owing students for a provisional registration, so as to enable write their examinations.
While considering the number of students involved, upon incessant plea from students. A memorandum was released in this regard, excerpts:
“The vice Chancellor has considered and approved the requests by students to be granted for provisional registration to enable them participate in the 2016/2017 First Semester examination which is about to commence.
This approval is on compassionate grounds, and it is in view of the fact that that greater number of students were unable to pay their fees, as a result of the poor economic situation in the country. It should however, be noted that all those who cannot immediately pay, should write a letter of undertaking, stating that they would pay by the beginning of the second semester and that they should state that their First Semester results should not be released, unless they pay school fees, and such letters should be endorsed by their respective Head of Departments in order to accord it, the desired legitimacy”.
