Kogi State House of Assembly has set aside the suspension of the Vice Chairman of Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area, Bimpe Alfred by the legislative council.
The House also set aside the suspension of the Secretary of Ijumu Local Government, Comrade Alex Ibikunle.
Tuesday plenary was an harvest of petitions from some Local Government Areas of the State.
First was a petition by the Vice Chairman of Kabba-Bunu Local Government, Bimpe Alfred in response to her suspension by the Local Government Chairman, Moses Olorunleke, who is also under suspension.
Members, including the Deputy Speaker, Alfa Rabiu and Cosmos Atabor of Igalamela-Odolu Constituency, said no law under the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended empowers a council Chairman to suspend the Vice Chairman.
They argued that they could only be impeached when they are found guilty of gross misconduct by the legislative council after due investigation.
In his ruling the Speaker, Prince Mathew Kolawole directed that the Vice Chairman of Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area to return to her office.
Also, the House set aside the suspension of the Secretary of Ijumu Local Government, Comrade Alex Ibikunle, saying due process was not followed by the Chairman of the Local Government, Taofiq Isa.
Deliberating on the matter, the Deputy Speaker, Alfa Rabiu moved that the suspension be set aside for not following due process.
The Speaker directed the council Chairman to follow the law for the request to be considered.
Similarly, the House has ratified the suspension of the Secretary of Igalamela-Odolu Local Government, Rilwan Inuwa after the Legislative Council suspended him over allegations of misconduct.
In the meantime, the APC candidate for Ogori-Magongo state constituency in the just concluded House of Assembly election, Olafimihan Akerejola has written a petition against 7 councillors for anti-party activities.
The wards affected include, Eni ward, Okibo, Ayeromi, Okesi, Ileteju, Ogugu and Obinoyin wards.
Olafimihan urged the House to take appropriate action against them to serve as deterrent.
After reading the petition, the speaker committed it to the House Adhoc Committee to invite the councillors for proper investigation.
The Speaker directed the council Chairman to follow the law for the request to be considered.
