The Jigawa state government has expressed dismay on the poor attitudes of farmers in the state for their refusal to pay back loan they benefited with in order to improved their production.
The special assistant to the governor Muhammad Abubakar Badaru on Community inclusion Alhaji Hamza Muhammad Hadeja made the called at a two day’s pre-convention workshop for Civil Society Organisation held yesterdays at three star hotel Dutse,
He urged the Jigawa state development Forum,civil societies, traditional rulers to support government’s effort by sensitizing farmers on the importance of returning the loan given to them for others to benefit.
“These attitudes of farmers are some of the issues that are discouraging government to support farmers in their farming activities” He stated.
He explained that agriculture is the main priority of present administration and government is committed to support farmers and empower youth through agriculture in order to boost their farming activities.
Hamza said state government spent billions of naira and buy agricultural inputs and distributed it to thousands of farmers as loan.
” inputs were given to farmers since 2015 with intention to return it after harvest for others to benefit, but unfortunately ninety percent of the beneficiaries despite they were benefited but refused to return the loan”
He said government introduced revolving loan scheme so that majority of farmers in the state can benefit with the program as majority of its populace are farmers.
Alhaji Hamza then urged people in the state to support good intentions of Badaru’s administration of providing jobs opportunities to Jigawa teeming youths for better economic development in the state.
