The Managing Director /Chief Executive of Jos electricity Distribution Company of Nigeria ,Alh Mohammed Modibo has raised alarm over the rampant illegal connection and vandalization of power installation wires in Plateau state and its environs .
The one day awareness campaign and sensitization workshop with the stakeholders on the illegal connection of JEDCO equipment and rampant reported cases of stealing of transformers ,wires meant to connect consumers,according to MD Modibo.
He disclosed that the selling of Power Holden Company of Nigeria to private individuals was to encourage the generation of income to the distribution company and cater for the unemployment rate in the country problem .
The meeting was to educate the consumers of electricity to identify and report to security people who specialized in stealing and vandalizing the JEDCO installation wires in the affected States .
He decried the decapitated structure and elliptic power supply to consumers is responsible for the low mega watts of electricity distribution to Jos ,Bauchi ,Benue and Gombe states .
Speaking with E-Reporter News on Tuesday at JEDCO Headquarters along Ahmadu Bello Way jos, Plateau state Dr Modibo lamented the challenges of the power sector which people took advantage to speculate false rumors.
He dispear the rumors making around that JEDCO is planning to increase it tariffs,as he emphatically maintained that the company has no plan to increase its tariffs as its been speculated in some quarters, even though there are plan on ground to improve the regulators which must be done with high level of consultation with the affected consumers because of the economic indices bedeviled average Nigerian at the moment.
Speaking of deprivation of the inward ,it is natural that the cost will go up but due to the price of things in the Market our tariffs was just review in 2015 which is still enforce ,we still receive invoice on the normal price ,he added.
“We are going to partner with government ,security agencies to effect arrest on those who are responsible for the problem of elliptic power supply to consumers this is capable of creating disharmony or conflict “,Alh Mohammed Modibo explained.
He stresses that the JEDCO is undergoing awareness campaign to educate the consumers of electricity distribution in the five states to improve the revenue base of the investors who put in their capital .
Modibo said the company want to disperse rumour that is been making around specially on the social media over the alleged increase on the tariff ,those saying this are misleading the general public and our consumers but we are putting the record straight that the review was done recently in 2015 .
According to him to E-Reporter News corespondents , the minister of power has directed all the eleven company owners on power reform which is aim at resolving the lingering problem of electricity distribution sector in the country.
He noted that JEDCO had issue out order to security agencies to arrest and prosecute all those defaulters by advising consumers that it would soon reward honest and faithful consumers who pay promptly to the JEDCO .
Modibo expressed desire to see people who pay their taxes or bills didn’t suffer electricity disconnection but rewarded dedicated citizens and those that are on estimated billing system is affecting them .
