A group, Kogi West Coalition has enlisted its voice and support for Bar. Babatunde Irukera, the Director General, Consumer Protection Council of Nigeria (CPC), to contest for Senate in the up coming elections, describing him as a square peg in square hole.
In an interview with E-Reporter News correspondent in Lokoja yesterday, the coordinator of the group, Hon Umar Ghadaffi Lokoja, said the call became necessary in view of the fact that Bar. Babatunde Irukera is an outstanding personality and litigator per excellence, who has put smile on the faces of the hopeless and helpless. Hon Umar said, Bar. Babatunde Irukera is the most competent and qualified person to restore the lost dignity of the Kogi West senatorial seat that has been desecrated by incompetence, mediocrity and delinquents.
Aside these, Bar. Babatunde Irukera is a humble man who is accessible and responsive. He would render quality legislative representation to the good people of Kogi West senatorial district, Umar said.
Bar. Babatunde Irukera’s professional career as a litigator has witnessed many victories. He has won cases with fair deal for clients. A good senator should have the lobbying ability to be able to influence projects and opportunities to his constituency, these attributes, Bar. Babatunde Irukera possess, says Umar.
“In view of his outstanding performance as a successful litigator and DG of Consumer Protection Council of Nigeria (CPC) within this short period of time, we wish to compel him to without further delay declare interest to contest for the senatorial seat Kogi Central in the 2019 elections” Umar stated.
Bar. Tunde Irukera is not the regular and popular type of politician, who has political projects to his name. This has not rendered him a novice or incompetent in anyway, his successful professional antecedents speaks volume of his ability and capacity to deliver in any given position he finds himself, just like he is doing at CPC at the moment.
We do not need a regular type of politicians, who come to promise heaven and earth, but a man of proven integrity with track record of performance and successes. Hon Umar therefore charge the people of Kogi west, not to fall prey to Smart and immature politicians with sugar coated mouth, but should support and give Babatunde Irukera a shot at senate come 2019.
