Academic Staff Union of polytechnic has come hard on the plateau state government Rt. Hon Simon Lalong over his refusal to attend its conference holding at the plateau state Polytechnic temporary site in the state capital.
The chairman organizing committee Samuel Yise registered his displeasure during an interview with our correspondent at the plateau state Polytechnic along Bukuru Road the venue of the conference.
Yise lamented that inspect of the invitation send to dignitaries including the Governor of the state Barr. Bako Lalong, the Governor did not attend in person or send representative.
He however condemned the nonchalant attitude of the state government towards an educational programme of this magnitude.
“If a Governor of the state whose state is holding this year conference of this magnitude which involves all the Polytechnics in the country was dually invited he couldn’t come ,and no representative of the Governor, then it speaks volumes”. He maintained.
Samuel said this year 2018 National conference of Academic Staff Union Of Polytechnics (ASUP)has its Theme :Challenges and Prospects Of Nigeria’s Economic Recovery From Depressed Economy is the 5th of its series.
He further said communique is expected to be issued at the end of the conference which is expected to last for three days.
In his keynote address delivered by the vice Chancellor of Plateau State University bokos professor Yohana lzam said the theme of the conference is apt considering the build-up of events in the economic landscape on one hand and the challenges this pose for nation building on the other.
Professor Yohana stressed that at a time when almost every problem in the country is attributed to the economic, he urgued
that the only way out is to laid solid foundation for the understanding of the phenomenon of economic recession and depression.
The Prof pointed out that the only way out of these economic quagmire is: insecurity as the country resources that should have been deployed to developmental projects have been deployed to manage crisis.
Other ways are ,ethno -religious cleavages, National will or patriotism is drowned in our ethno -religious cleavages.
