Civil society has raised alarm over high rate of cancers scourge in Nigeria.
National Coordinator of Civil Society for Cancer Eradication in Nigeria ,Mr Elijah Elijah has disclosed that the awareness campaign on the scourge of cancer disease among women is aim at creating sensitization to educate them on danger of the disease.
He made the disclosure at the constituency services for coordination of sensitization program of populace in the North Central zone on breast cancer scourge ,Benue ,Plateau and Nasarawa states held at Hill station hotel ,Jos .
Elijah stressed that the civil society awareness campaign ,we embark on radical awareness to enlighten women on the symptoms of how the disease usually start before spreading to other parts of the body . Three states are to be used as pilot States he said.
He decried that cancer scourge killed 30 women daily and out of which, 20 always died of cervical infection which have gone beyond the ages of 30 below .
Elijah explained that they embark on cancer scourge in Africa and they discover that the disease didn’t discriminate between the rich and poor and out of 100 people screen 99 of them are women out of which one is a man .
According to him, the traditional foods can be
use as remedy to fight cancer during its early growth but the age limit disappear due to the junk -foods and some acquire through heredity.
He cautioned women against reckless live but encourage them to avoid junk-foods also expressing worried women who reach their menopause aged or don’t have children are agents likely exposed to risk of getting cancer.
Mr Elijah reminds the people to stay away from fast foods or experiencing painless swelling from their breast /lump ,blood stained ,nipped discharge ,nipped retraction to quickly go for check up.
We are able to do enlightenment to the general public on the danger of the disease and we passionately appeal to women who avail themselves to come and listen carefully to educate other .
The Wife of Jos North Local Government Management Committee Chairman ,Mrs Marry Philip Nyam solicited the cooperation of women to avail themselves the opportunity to go to the nearest hospital for routine checkup .
She urged people to be the Change agent and charge women on how to manage the scourge of cancer disease ,adding the common cancer trace is breast cancer, cervical ,prostate cancer .
The high point of the event is the conduct of an election to elect an official that will pilot the affairs of the organization .
The National Coordinator Elijah Elijah advised the aspirants to understand that the office is not just for them to come and lead but they must be ready to sacrifice to lead by example. “Is good to die living the live of others than die living for yourself”, and argue the contestants who may not have the courage to imbibe the above highlighted characteristics to steps down because he or she may not be in the right place.
