2000 indigenes of Kogi state that benefited from the GYB Educational Foundation Scheme and secured admission into Kinsey College of Education, a private college of education in Ilorin kwara state, have all matriculated last weekend.
It would be recalled that on the 27th of July 2017, Governor Yahaya Bello flagged off the GYB Model Schools in Kogi state, to deliver qualitative education to the children of the less privileged all around kogi state. Education being one of the 5 thematic areas of the New Direction blueprint, received a great boost when the Governor in a bid to employ quality and qualified hands to man these model school, embarked on giving scholarship to indigenes of Kogi state to get the NCE certificates.
The Scholarship scheme was flagged off by the Ministry of Youth and Sport under the purview of it then commissioner, Hon. Gabriel Arome Adoji who is now commissioner for Culture and Tourism , while the selection process was coordinated and supervised by Confluence Youth for Peace and Development Initiative (CYPDI), which ensured all applicants, were treated equally, fairly and justly.
The scholarship scheme targeted persons who are incapable of paying school fees but with passion for education, from all around the 21 local Government Areas of Kogi State.
Speaking, the Provost of the College, Prof. Theophilous A. Okin, (OON) while addressing the students, encouraged them to be good ambassador of their states and their parents. He implored the students to work very hard as the sky will be their limit.
The Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, who was represented by the Hon. Commissioner for Culture and Tourism Hon. Gabriel Arome Adoji, charged the beneficiaries to also be of good conduct and great ambassadors of Kogi State by utilising the scholarship opportunity given to them in the best interest of their future.
The proprietor of Maryam Abacha American University Maradi Niger Republic, Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, who was a guest, charged the students to utilise their scholarship opportunities properly as he promised 50 best graduating students of Kogi State origin full scholarship into the Maryam Abacha American School with tuition fees, accommodation and other allowances covered.
The President of CYPDI Comr. Jatto DanBello also encouraged the students to prioritise their studies and conducts themselves in manners that reflect the peaceful characters of Kogi people.
Giving the closing remark on behalf of the 2000 beneficiaries from Kogi state, Okpanachi Ameh appreciated and thanked the governor for his efforts in bringing their dreams to reality.
A total amount of 100 million naira was expended on the tuition fees of the students, for the first academic session at 50,000 naira per person.
