The Senator representing Abia South Senatorial District, Senator Enyinnaya Harcourt Abaribe, has been instructed to produce Nnamdi Kanu or forfeit his 100 Million bail bond he paid to the court for the release of the IPOD leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
Senator Abaribe, stated that he has not seen or heard from the IPOD leader since September 11th, he then prayed the court to discharge him as Kanu’s surety.
A lawyer, Mr. Ogechi Ogunna, appeared for Abaribe on Tuesday, informing the judge that his client had filed a motion seeking to be discharged as Kanu’s surety
Responding, the trial judge, Justice Binta Nyako said Abaribe had three options.
One, Abaribe should produce the defendant in court and then apply to be discharged as a surety.
Secondly, Abaribe should be ready to forfeit his N100m bail bond and lastly, the lawmaker was given time to produce the defendant in court.
Replying Justice Nyako, Ogunna said, “He (Abaribe) is not in a position to do any of these.”
But the trial judge maintained that Abaribe must pick for one of the three options. Eventually, the Senator picked the third option.
It would be recalled that Kanu who was granted bail by the judge on April 24, 2017, was absent from court on Tuesday when his trial was billed to commence.
The other sureties, Immanuel Shalum Okabenmabu and Tochukwu Uchendu, were absent from court and not represented by any lawyer on Tuesday. The trial has been adjourned until November 20.
