The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), said it has failed to arraigned Senator, Jonah Jang, in court because of logistics reasons.
This was made known by the Counsel to the EFCC, Barrister Rotimi Jacob SAN, who presented an experti motion, at Monday proceedings at State Hight Court 5 of Jos,before justice Daniel Longji sitting .
In his experte motion dated 4th April, 2018, the counsel sought the court to grant him audience to present the charges against the sitting Senator Dr David jonah Jang, and one Mr. James Simon, being the accused before the honourable Court, citing sections 116 and 118 of the criminal act to buttress his claim.
He urged the court to consider the experte motion seeking to present four evidences, and copies of exhibits to be presented before the Court.
He sought the court to grant him the application.
However, defence counsel Barrister, Robert Clarke (SAN), expressed surprise and disappointment and said it was unfortunate for him to travel all the way from Lagos to Jos, but only to be told that the accused persons could not be arraigned before the Court.
He said it was more shocking that until this moment the EFCC could not served them with the alleged charges prepared before the Court, adding that; “the EFCC is jettison the laws.”
He further argued that the application was out of point of law.
After listening to the issues, justice Daniel Longji, ruled that the application filed by the plaintiff was in accordance with the plateau State law.
He adjourned the matter to Wednesday 16 May, 2018 for arraignment of the accused and for hearing of their application for bail.
It will be recalled that Senator David Jonah Jang representing Jos North of Plateau State is facing 12 count charges of money laundering crime which he committed when he hold sway as Governor of Plateau from 2007 to 2015.
