In line with the administration of Governor Yahaya Bello’s developmental and educational policy as contained in key thematic areas of the Kogi State Blueprint, which includes job creation for the teeming unemployed youths of Kogi state, through basic technical and vocational training for skills acquisition, the Kogi state government is partnering with a Nigeria ICT consulting firm, Certified Systems Nig Ltd which has a Dubai regional office and who are certified agent of Microsoft, Huawei, Intel and Samsung.

Speaking from China through a telephone chat, the commissioner for finance and head of Kogi state Economic Team Alhaji Asiru Asiwaju, who led a 5 man team to China stated that unemployment in Kogi state is about to be kicked out. The primary firm, Huawei is coming to invest in various sectors of Kogi thereby boosting and enhancing productivity of the public and private sector. Also, the educational sector would receive massive and major ICT boost that would equip our youths with necessary ICT skills from elementary school through college. This would in turn boost self reliance and reduce unemployment. They are in China with the consulting firm to finalize the partnership with Huawei.

Huawei is a leading global ICT solutions provider. Driven by responsible operations, ongoing innovation, and open collaboration, we have established a competitive ICT portfolio of end-to-end solutions in telecom and enterprise networks, devices, and cloud computing. Our ICT solutions, products, and services are used in more than 170 countries and regions, serving over one-third of the world’s population. With more than 170,000 employees, Huawei is committed to enabling the future information society, and building a Better Connected World. It has its headquarters in china and was founded in 1987 by Ren Zhengfei.

Kogi would benefit immensely in the long run from this partnership. Since ICT provides ready job opportunities, our teeming unemployed youths who would have been trained in various areas of ICT and acquired necessary skills would put them into practice. The partnership includes setting up of ICT hubs in Kogi state owing to the bundle of talents that abound in Kogi state. It would be recalled that some few months ago, the founder of Facebook paid a visit to Nigeria, and he visited mostly ICT hubs in Lagos and partnering with them. ICT hub is a space where technologists congregate to bounce ideas around, network, programme and design to bring their ideas to fruition and Kogi state is already blazing the trail in the whole of Northern Nigeria.

It would be recalled that the Federal Government of Nigeria in December 2016 signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU with a Chinese technology firm to provide 2000 Information and Communication Technology, ICT trainee jobs to young Nigerians in 2016 under the “Huawei’s Seeds for the Future program.” the Programme was part of the change agenda of the president Mohammadu Bihari’s administration to create jobs for the youth. The vice president Professor Yemi Osinbajo who represented president Buhari at the signing stated that the “ICT is one of the quickest ways people can get decent jobs, so we think this is absolutely important and since Governor Yahaya Bello is a 100% ICT compliant governor, it is a done deal.

The 5 member of the team are Alhaji Asiru Asiwaju, Commissioner for Finance, Dr Tolorunleke Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mrs Rosemary Ojochenemi Osikoya, Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Mr. Sanusi Usman, Commissioner for Commerce and Industries and Engr Ohere Special Adviser on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
